NDIC tasks mortgage banks on premium payment
As reported by punch news.
The Managing Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance
Corporation, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, has appealed to the
management of the primary mortgage banks to ensure that
their premium contributions are paid promptly and regularly.
He said this was necessary because records had shown that
15 out 42 PMBs had yet to meet their premium obligations.
Ibrahim said this while delivering a keynote address at the
NDIC’s 2016 sensitisation workshop for operators of the
PMBs in Lagos.
The workshop had its theme as “Implementing Differential
Premium Assessment System in Primary Mortgage Banks in
Nigeria.”
The NDIC boss explained that the agency, as a risk
minimiser, had obtained the approval of the Minister of
Finance, Mrs, Kemi Adeosun, in August 2016 to deploy the
DPAS in computing the deposit insurance premium of the
PMBs as a way of encouraging market discipline.
He said, “The DPAS classifies banks into various risk
buckets and applies different premium rates depending on
the perceived riskiness of each risk bucket. The computation
trajectory incorporates sound strategic planning and
transformative business model.
“It also implicitly addresses the issue of moral hazard, which
guarantees caution and avoidance of excessive risk taking in
the interest of both operators and subscribers.”
While assuring the operators that the risk-based premium
system-DPAS-allows the institution to pay much less
premium than would have been the case with alternative flat
rate system, Ibrahim said the NDIC would continue to review
the deposit insurance coverage from time to time.

Ondo decides :who go win, go win
Information Nigeria
It is believed that all the 1.6 million registered voters in Ondo state should already be at the various polling units today, casting their vote in order to elect Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s successor. There was some concern as violence among rival party supporters broke out in
Akure, the state capital on Friday.
The leading candidates in the election are, Mr. Evita you Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party; Chief Rothman Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress; Dr. Olufsen Agunloye of the Social Democratic Party and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy.
Mr. Eyitayo Jegede was named the PDP candidate on Thursday after an appeal court ruled that Jim oh Ibrahim was not the legitimate PDP candidate.
26,000 policemen and 15,000 personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed in the state to maintain law and order along with some army officers. Despite the presence of security agents, Governor Mimiko has alleged that the APC plans to rig the elections,
“INEC did not release the list of voter’s register to the PDP until yesterday (Thursday), in clear infraction of its own laws and against its advertised timetable and schedule of activities for the Ondo State election. I NEC refused to publish Eyitayo Jegede’s name for 30 days as stipulated in Section 34 of the Electoral Act 2010.
“INEC denied Eyitayo Jegede the right to submit his party agents’ list at least seven days before the election, as stipulated in Section 45 of the Electoral Act 2010, among many others. As we speak, collation tags for ward collation officers are not available for PDP ward agents.
Let the man of the people win.

Fidel Castro Cuba's Leader Of Revolution Dies At 90
Fidel Castro, Cuba's former president and leader of the Communist revolution is dead..
"The commander in chief of the Cuban revolution died at 22:29 hours this evening (03:29 GMT Saturday)," President Raul Castro said.
Fidel Castro ruled Cuba as a one-party state for almost 50 years before Raul took over in 2008.
His supporters said he had given Cuba back to the people. But he was also accused of suppressing opposition.
President Castro told the nation in an unexpected late night broadcast on state television that Fidel Castro had died and would be cremated later on Saturday.
There would now be several days of national mourning on the island.
Raul Castro ended the announcement by shouting the revolutionary slogan: "Towards victory, always!"
Barring the occasional newspaper column, Fidel Castro had essentially been retired from political life for some time, the BBC's Will Grant in Havana reports.
In April, Fidel Castro gave a rare speech on the final day of the country's Communist Party congress.
He acknowledged his advanced age but said Cuban communist concepts were still valid and the Cuban people "will be victorious".
Castro - who had survived many assassination plots - was the longest serving non-royal leader of the 20th Century.
Castro temporarily handed over power to his brother in 2006 as he was recovering from an acute intestinal ailment.
Raul Castro officially became president two years later.
Quite a strong man he was.

Outgoing President Obama thanks Americans on Thanksgiving day.
President Barack Obama made use of the Thanksgiving day to thank Americans for their trust and support during the eight years of his presidency.
Here are his words
“On this Thanksgiving, I want to express my sincere gratitude to
the American people for the trust that you’ve placed in me over
these last eight years and the incredible kindness that you’ve
shown my family.
“On behalf of Michelle, and my mother-in-law, and our girls, we
want to thank you so very, very much,” this he said at the event to
kick-start the National Thanksgiving Day.
The President also listed some of his achievements in office as president.
“Of course, we have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Six
straight years of job creation – the longest streak ever; low
unemployment; wages are rising again.
“Inequality is narrowing. The housing market is healing. The stock
market has nearly tripled. Our high school graduation rate is at an
all-time high.
“Our uninsured rate is at an all-time low, thanks to the 20 million
more Americans, including millions of children, who finally know
the security of health insurance.
“Proud families across the country are finally complete now that
marriage equality is the law of the land.
“And there are many families of service members who had empty
chairs at the table in recent years but who on this Thanksgiving
can celebrate with our brave troops and veterans who we’ve
welcomed home.”
The outgoing president emphasized that Americans, in spite of their
diversity, are stronger.
“We are a people that look out for one another and get each
other’s backs. We keep moving forward, defined by values and
ideals that have been a light to all humanity.
“We have to see ourselves in each other because we’ve all got
families we love, and we all have hopes for their better future.
“We lose sight of that sometimes, and Thanksgiving is a good time
for us to remember that. We have a lot more in common than
divides us.”
He called on all Americans to use the day to reach out to the less-
privileged, saying no one should lack something to eat on the day.
“The holidays are also a time when it’s even more important to
reach out to those who need a helping hand.
“I believe we’re judged by how we care for the poor and the
vulnerable, the sick and the elderly, the immigrant, the refugee,
everybody who’s trying to get a second chance.
“I believe that in order to truly live up to those ideals, we have to
continually fight discrimination in all its forms and always show
the world that America is a generous and giving country.
“We should also make sure everyone has something to eat on
Thanksgiving,” Obama said.
Thanksgiving is a public holiday celebrated in the U.S. on the last
Thursday in November.
So today, I say a blissful thanksgiving day my US readers.
Enjoy your turkey day.

Are you already registered with MMM, or still nurturing doubts about it? Well, here are 10 reasons why it has been confirmed it will not crash.
According to 'tori', these are some compelling reasons given by an MMM insider, stating why the money Pontiac scheme will not crash in Nigeria.
In this article, a member of MMM Nigeria has given 10 reasons
why the money ponzi scheme will not crash in Nigeria.
1. MMM is an innovative and experimental platform where people
donate money directly to each other.
2. There are no investors and no investments in MMM. Money is
not invested in any asset. Money is donated to the other person.
As MMM members donate money, there are no guarantees that
people will be donated back. Everything depends on the members
themselves: they develop the community making it sustainable
and creating a permanent process of the exchange of donations.
3. MMM members are rewarded with Mavro after they donate help
to other members of the Community.
4. 30% per month is not an interest rate, but an expected growth
rate of Mavro. Growth rate of Mavro and its amount can be
adjusted at any moment for the benefit of the community.
5. Mavro is like scores or grades in colleges. Where do grades
come from? Is it possible for grades to be out of stock? Grades
are taken from nowhere. Students get grades according to their
performance. This is the same with Mavros. Mavro is an
evaluation of the contribution made by a participant for the
development of the Community.
6. MMM is a self-adjusting Community. The algorithms of
matching senders and receivers and algorithms of Mavro reward
constantly get adjusted and improved.
7. MMM cannot crash because it cannot pay its members. This is
due to the fact that MMM is not a corporation involved in financial
transactions, MMM just connects senders and receivers.
8. The main factor in the MMM Community is its members’
behaviour. The aim of MMM is not to make people rich, but to
change their mindset, to encourage people to share what they
have with others. Members should not treat MMM as a money
making scheme.
9. MMM members can choose the time when they provide and get
help. Usually members follow the principle: donate when you have
spare money and ask for money when you need to buy something

Zenith Bank sacks over 1,200 employees
According to Premium times, today is a sad day for some employees of Zenith Bank PLC, one of Nigeria’s leading new generation banks, who were served notices terminating their appointments and services.
Though the actual figure of those affected is yet to be ascertained,
with initial report claiming no fewer than 1,200 were involved
from all the bank’s branches, while a source close to the bank
told Premium Times that about 240 people, including eight
General Managers and 40 Assistant General Managers, were
affected.
What is, however, clear is that the action swept away most of
top management staff in a deliberate attempt by the bank to
drastically cut down on its top heavy management structure.
“One thing that is clear is that Zenith Bank is not under any
threat,” the source, who spoke with premium time's reporter on condition of anonymity.
"With the current crisis in the banking industry in the
country, it is incumbent on any bank that wants to growth to
bend backwards to re-strategize and restructure its operations
to expand and grow.
“The number might not be as high as is being speculated. But,
the decision is not by accident. It is a deliberate one, because
the time is ripe for the bank to restructure the management and
reposition its operations for greater efficiency and profitability
both for shareholders and investors. The decision was inevitable
that it had to happen.
“If one looks at Zenith Bank, it was becoming top heavy, with
many of the managers earning so much that could have been
enough to support the business growth plans. With the action
now, there is no doubt that a lot of money would be saved for
the bank.”
The source, however denied speculations about the mode of
serving notification of sack on the affected staff, saying it was
not true that they were informed through text messages.
“A formal meeting was held with the affected staff since Monday
this week, where details of their disengagement benefits were
discussed and agreement reached,” the source explained.
Zenith Bank says it’s overall vision is to emerge a reputable
international financial services network recognized for
innovation, superior customer service and performance, while
creating premium value for all stakeholders.
With the latest development, the bank joins the growing list of
banks in the financial sector of the economy to embark on the
restructuring of its staff as a strategy to repositioning for
growth.
Recently, Access Bank, which acquired former Intercontinental
Bank in the wake of the bank consolidation policy, dispensed
with the services of over 1,600 of its workers across the nation,
while Mainstreet Bank, one of the three nationalised banks is
reported to have equally sent more than 400 of its workers away
for a similar reason.
