Buhari Orders Probe Of His Chief Of Staff, Abba Kyari Over Alleged N500million MTN Bribe

The Special Investigation Panel at the Nigerian Police Force
Headquarters has commenced investigation of the Chief of Staff to
the President, Alhaji Abba Kyari, over bribery allegations.

DAILY POST gathered that the Presidency directed the Inspector
General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to investigate the alleged
N500million bribe, said to have been paid to the Chief of Staff by
officials of MTN, Telecommunications Company.

The social media was awash with a report few days ago that
officials of MTN gave a bribe of N500million to Alhaji Abba Kyari,
to intervene and use his closeness to President Buhari, to
influence the federal government to give MTN a safe landing.

It would be recalled that the NCC, Nigeria’s telecoms regulator,
slammed a $5 billion fine on MTN for failing to disconnect
subscribers with unregistered phone lines bought before January,
2012.

The telecommunications giant had earlier taken moves to seek
redress over the huge fine imposition through the courts but later
stepped down the litigation.

As a pointer to the anti-corruption crusade of President
Muhammadu Buhari, the panel has been given the green light to
carry out a wholistic probe and come out with findings regarding
the accusation.
