The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, yesterday said
the corporation would soon start oil exploration in Gombe State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Ibrahim Hassan
Dankwambo in Gombe, he said this followed a directive from
President Muhammadu Buhari for the search and possible
exploration of crude oil in the Chad Basin following discovery of
crude oil in commercial quantity in Niger and Chad Republic.
Dr. Baru said the NNPC would soon conduct feasibilities study in
Akko, Billiri, Balanga, Dukku, Funakaye, Kwami and Dukku local
government areas of the state. He added that the NNPC was
currently having exploration activities in the Chad Basin and some
areas in Bauchi State, where Shell had made some indicative
discovery of hydrocarbon.
In his remarks, Governor Dankwambo described Baru’s visit as a
welcome development to people of the state. He thanked President
Buhari for choosing Gombe among the benefiting states and
promised all necessary support from his government for the
success of the exercise.
