Gone so soon :former Niger State Governor, Kure dies at 60

NIGER State was thrown into confusion on Sunday
following the announcement of the death of former
governor Abdulkadir Kure .

Kure was said to have died in Germany on Sunday
afternoon where he was flown to three weeks ago for
medical attention .

According to family sources , the former governor was
taken to Germany for kidney - related sickness .

The Chief Press Secretary to the former Governor, Alhaji
Mahmud Abdullahi , confirmed this to our correspondent
in a telephone interview .

Abdullahi said arrangement was already being made by
the family to bring the remains of the former governor to
the country for burial.

Born on February 26 , 1956 , the late Kure is survived by
his wife , Senator Zaynab Kure , six children – four boys
and two girls.

He was the Director of Engineering Services in the Federal
Capital Territory before joining politics .

The late Kure was a foundation member of the Peoples
Democratic Party and became the state two-term governor
between 1999 and 2007 .

After leaving office as governor , Kure became a member of
the Board of Trustees of the PDP.

The late Abdulkhadir Kure was a member of the Senator
Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP.

A devastated state Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Tanko
Beji , described Kure ’s demise as “ sad , ” adding that “ we
cannot query God . ”

Beji said the late governor had contributed immensely to
the socio - political development of Niger State and Nigeria
as a whole

He added , “ He has left an indelible mark on the sand of
times ,may his soul rest in peace. ”
