Greek ambassador to Brazil's wife and lover arrested over his murder (photos)

The wife of the Greek ambassador to Brazil and her policeman
lover have been arrested today after the ambassador, Mr. Kyriakos
Amiridis vanished without a trace on Boxing Day Monday and his
charred remains were found on Wednesday.

This is coming days after the ambassador reportedly caught his
wife, Francois Amiridis in bed with military policeman Sergio
Gomes Moreira Filho.

Filho has reportedly confessed to killing Kyriakos Amiridis in the
apartment where the couple were spending Christmas. That he
later used the ambassador's own hire car to remove his body
before setting it alight under an highway underpass.

Mr Amiridis and his Brazilian wife had been together for 15 years
and have a ten-year-old daughter.

The charred remains of Mr Amiridis, 59, were found on Wednesday
underneath an overpass in the city, inside the car the diplomat had
hired to spend Christmas and New Year with his wife's relatives.

He had vanished without a trace on Boxing Day when he left the
home of his wife's relatives in Rio de Janeiro and never returned.

His wife told police she was out shopping on Monday night when
he phoned at 8pm saying he was going out, and never returned
home.

But today police investigating the case claimed they believe his
death was a "crime of passion" after he had discovered that his
wife was having an affair with another man.

Investigators reportedly found blood stains in the apartment, which
belongs to his wife, where the couple had been staying in the Nova
Iguacu district of the city.

Police believe he was murdered in the apartment some time
between Tuesday and Wednesday before his body was dumped in
the hire car and set on fire yesterday morning.

The man Ms Amiridis was believed to have been having an affair
with is reportedly a military police officer who works at a police
base situated a local slum.

Both he and Ms Amiridis were questioned earlier today at the
homicide police station in the Baixada Fluminense region of
metropolitan Rio de Janeiro.

Investigators told Brazil's Extra newspaper that they believe Ms
Amiridis may have paid a contract killer to murder her husband
after he found out about their relationship.

Ms Amiridis denies any involvement with the ambassador's death,
claiming he never returned home on Monday, and didn't know why
there was blood on the sofa.

Police are reportedly analysing the sofa, as well as CCTV images
from the area.

Mr Amridis, who took over the ambassador post in January this
year, was Greek consul in Rio de Janeiro, where his wife also owns
a home, for three years from 2001.

Before returning to Brazil, he was the Greek ambassador in Libia
for four years from 2012,

MirrorUK reports.

Below you can see the ambassador with his wife before his death.

Bad weather stops Buhari’s visit to Bauchi, President apologises

The Federal Government on Thursday said plans were
underway to upgrade the Instrument Landing Systems at the
country’s major airports to ensure that they work better.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and
Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement
announcing the suspension of President Muhammadu
Buhari’s scheduled one-day working visit to Bauchi State.

Shehu said this was with a view to minimising flight
disruptions that had featured every harmattan season in the
country.

He attributed the trip’s postponement to what he called
prevailing weather conditions in the country.

He quoted the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi
Sirika, as announcing the planned upgrade while reacting to
the bad weather that forced Buhari to postpone the trip.

The presidential spokesman said, “Uncooperative weather,
which has been the bane of air travel in the current
harmattan season, leading to the delay and cancellation of
flights, reared its head at the Abuja airport this (Thursday)
morning, preventing the take-off of the President’s plane for
the trip to Bauchi.

“Technical information received from the weather station
showed that visibility as of this (Thursday) morning was 600
metres, 200 metres short of the 800 metres minimally
required for a safe aircraft take-off.

“According to the information available, the visibility was
expected to drop to 300 metres before improving to
permissible limit later in the day.

“The commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, Air
Commodore Hassan Abubakar, said the presidential aircraft
was in perfect condition, the weather in Bauchi was alright,
but that the problem was in Abuja.”

In cancelling the visit to the state, Shehu said the President
expressed regret over the disruption caused by the bad
weather.

He said Buhari, in a recorded audio and video message to
the people of the state, said he looked forward to the visit in
the course of which he was to inaugurate an Air Force
medical facility and a number of other projects by the state
government.

“We make our plans, God makes His own plans,” the
President was quoted as saying.

Buhari thanked the government and people of Bauchi State
and the Nigerian Air Force for the studious and elaborate
preparations made to receive him, assuring them that he was
going to visit the state at a more auspicious time.

Our correspondent reports that that was the second time
Buhari would be suspending the Bauchi trip which was
earlier fixed for December 13.

In the two instances, state government had declared public
holidays to allow residents of the state to give the President
a warm reception.

Buhari would have, during the visit, inaugurated the Nigerian
Air Force Hospital as well as some projects executed by the
state government.

Our correspondent reported that a combined team of security
agents including policemen and soldiers attached to the
Presidential Guard Brigade had earlier in the day lined the
route from the Presidential Villa, to the Presidential Wing of
the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in
anticipation of the President’s journey.

The security agents were later recalled when it was
confirmed that the trip had been suspended.

Airline operators had, on Wednesday, attributed flights
disruptions during harmattan to the obsolete navigational
instruments at the airports.

Speaking in a broadcast to the people of Bauchi on Thursday,
the state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, said the
cancellation of the visit was due to the poor visibility caused
by the harmattan.

Abubakar apologised to the people for the failure of the
President to visit the state for the second time, stating that it
was not intentional.

The governor, while answering questions from journalists
after the broadcast, stated that the Special Assistant on
Social Media to the President, Alhaji Sha’aban Sharada, and
other aides, had been in the state for the past three days in
preparation for the visit.

“He did this because of his love for Bauchi. He hardly does
this kind of things. There were instances governors had gone
to the airport to welcome him and the visit was cancelled but
he didn’t do this,” Abubakar added.

Socrates' triple filter ; for true friends

Often times we participate in loose talks to curb our boredom. But when it's about your friends, then it's not worth it.

Always avoid talking behind the back about your near and dear friends.

Learn this Socrates' triple filter...

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day one fellow met the great philosopher and said,

"Do you know what I just heard about your friend?".
"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied.

"Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

"Triple filter?".

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test.

The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and...".

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness.

Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"

"No, on the contrary...". The fellow replied

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true.

You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness.

" Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really." was the reply.

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

I hope you understand.

President Buhari's Christmas message

Dear Compatriots,

I heartily rejoice with all Nigerians, particularly our Christian
brothers and sisters, on this year's celebration of the birth of Jesus
Christ.

As we celebrate this year’s Christmas, I believe that it is very
appropriate for us to reflect on the love of God aptly espoused in
the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ.

During his earthly sojourn, Jesus Christ repeatedly reminded his
disciples and followers of peace that comes in the midst of trials
and tribulations on earth.

There is no better time than now in our nation’s history to pray for
divine guidance to get over our current challenges.

We can have peace in Nigeria if we all learn to tolerate and
appreciate one another, respect constituted authority; and be our
brothers’ keepers in word and deed.

During this period, we should remember to offer special prayers to
God for all our heroic citizens who paid the supreme price to
restore peace and security in the North East and other flash points
in the country.

Let us also remember in our prayers the security forces in the
frontline in the continuing battle to rid our nation of terrorism and
violence.

We must not forget the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in our
midst and those who have suffered untold hardship as a result of
activities of insurgents and terrorists.

Our immediate priority is to alleviate the poverty of Nigerians by
quickly stimulating the economy.

I assure Nigerians that our government is doing its best to make
life easier for all.

Let us therefore, renew our hope in the God-ordained unity,
progress and prosperity of our great nation.

I wish all travellers safe movements and a memorable holiday as
we celebrate with our family and friends.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
MUHAMMADU BUHARI
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria
December 24, 2016.

Recap #10 on tips on how to lose weight

Ginger is a well-known root around the world for all of its health
properties, especially as an anti-inflammatory and for its gastric
properties that assist the digestive system. This root is used as a
slimming formula because its properties promote weight loss. Not
only does it improve digestive functions but it also has a
“thermogenic” effect that helps activate the metabolism, making it
a potent fat and calorie-burner.

On the other hand,we already know our super lemon is another one of the big powerful
medicines that promotes health in different ways. It too is
considered a natural thinning agent. Its vitamin C content turns it
into a very effective antioxidant that promotes waste elimination
from the body , fights fluid retention, helps detoxify the body and
contributes to a reduction in abdominal swelling.

So with these two combined together, are considered to be a potent natural slimming formula that can help complement your weight loss diet.

Not forgetting other benefits which include :
1. Help purify the blood

2. Strengthen the immune system

3. They are good for skin health

4. They stimulate good digestion.

How to prepare the lemon and ginger drink:

Bring a cup of water to boil, put off the heat
Add a slice of ginger, cover and allow it to steep for 5mins,
Then add the  squeezed lemon juice.
And enjoy your drink.

Note: please take this drink before your breakfast.

Governor cum seer Ayo Fayose releases 2017 prophesies list

The Governor of Ekiti state, Fayose, has through his media aide, Lere
Olayinka  sent a list of  his 2017 predictions to DAILY PAST.

He started by reminding us of his previous 2016 predictions, which he claimed had already come to fulfilment. Fayose said

“Fellow Nigerians, remember I predicted 20 things that will be experienced this year 2016.

“Almost 90 percent of what the Holy Spirit led me to predict came
to pass.

“The Holy Spirit has once again led me to tell Nigerians what may
happen in 2017.

“We therefore need prayer to avert further calamitiesin Nigeria.
“May God help our country.”

Here are the predictions

1. 2017 will be a defining year for Nigeria as there will be major
revolution and uprising against the Federal Government because of
economic hardship.

2. More judges perceived not to be doing the bidding of the Federal
Government will be arrested and humiliated.

3. Efforts will be made to prevent Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen
from being made the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

4. Dollar will go as high as N600 to $1.

5. APC-led Federal Government will still not have solution to the
economic problems of the country as the economy will move from
recession to depression.

6. About four ministers will be removed.

7. There will be more pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari
to sack the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin
Emefiele.

8. Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) will absolve Senate President
Bukola Saraki.

Facebook faces €200m fine for ‘misleading’ EU in Whatsapp buyout

The European Union charged Facebook on Tuesday with
providing “misleading” information when it sought approval
for its blockbuster $22bn buyout of the WhatsApp mobile
messaging service.

The European Commission said the EU’s greenlight of the
buyout, announced in October 2014, was not in jeopardy but
the social network could face almost two hundred million
euros in fines.

With the charge, Facebook joins Apple, Google, Amazon and
Microsoft among the US-based tech giants caught in major
EU competition probes.

“The European Commission has sent a Statement of
Objections to Facebook alleging the company provided
incorrect or misleading information during the Commission’s
2014 investigation” of the buyout, the EU’s executive arm
said in a statement.

Facebook is accused of misleading the EU with a claim that it
was technically impossible for it to merge users between the
two services.

But WhatsApp in August said that it would begin sharing
data with Facebook, in a bid to allow better-targeted
advertising and to fight spam on the platform.

The update by WhatsApp raises “concerns that Facebook
intentionally, or negligently, submitted incorrect or
misleading information to the commission,” the EU said.

The company has until January 31 to respond to the charge
sheet. It faces a fine of one percent of annual sales, which
stood at a whopping $18 billion in 2015.

“We respect the Commission’s process and are confident
that a full review of the facts will confirm Facebook has acted
in good faith,” a Facebook spokesperson said in an email.

The rare accusation by Brussels comes after the EU’s
powerful competition chief Margarethe Vestager said she
“will keep a close eye on how companies use data”.

The commission is worried that the value of user data is
underestimated in tech mergers, though Brussels waved
through the recent buyout of LinkedIn by Microsoft despite
these concerns.

Tensions between Brussels and Washington have sharpened
since EU regulators turned a focus on US tech companies.

Vestager in August ordered Apple to pay back 13 billion
euros in taxes and her teams are running several cases
against Google.
